Rich and famous: The Harry Potter films have made Emma Watson the highest paid female star in Hollywood she earned 23,5 million€ in 2009! But Emma says her education is as important as her career. She hesitated before making the final Harry Potter film because she was worried about her studies.
A perfect student: When Emma was on harry Potter film sets, she saw a tutor for five hours every day. She also went to school in Oxfordshire and got excellent grades in English Literature, Geography and Art. Emma has always been positive about being a child actress, but she never wanted to leave school to act full time: "School life keeps me in touch with my friends.... with reality", Emma says.

MERRY CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK!
In December, New Yorkers got to the Rockefeller Center to do their Christmas shopping. They also go ice-skating and admire the Christmas tree. The tree has more than 25.000 coloured lights which are lit in an important ceremony in early December. Last year, special guests included Alicia Keys and Shakira.
THE ROCKEFELLER CENTER is a complex of 19 buildings in Manhattan, with shops, restaurants and offices. It was built in the 1930s by the Rockefeller family and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
LIGHTS lighting the Christmas tree at the Rockefeller Center is an important signal to New yorkers: the Christmas season has started! In 2008, the tree was kit on 3 December.
THE TRADITION the first Christmas tree was placed here in 1931, before the Rockefeller Center was built. It was decorated with garlands and tin cans.

CHINESE LONDON
Chinatown is like a small piece of China in London's central Soho district. Chinatown has many souvenir shops, supermarkets selling Asian food, and Chinese restaurants serving dishes like dim sum and crispy Peking Duck. Every year, tourists come to Chinatown to see the Chinese New year Parade, which is on of the biggest in the world. With their bright lanterns and exotic dragon dances, Chinese people know haw to celebrate in style.

Rubikubism


RUBIKUBISM
You probably know the famous Rubik's cube. Now a mystery street artist called Invader has started a new art movement: "Rubikubism". He twists Rubik's cubes to get the colours to make famous people and objects. This image has more than 100 Rubik's cubes. Invader has also recreated the Mona Lisa. He sells his art for pounds 20,000 (23,000 €). But his identity is still a big secret!

MINI CAKES
The English love tea and cakes. But you can't eat these cakes! They were made by Stephanie Kilgast, aged 24, who uses pins and toothpicks to make food from clay. Stephanie was looking for a new hobby: "I tried painting, knitting... but I really felt a passion for sculpting miniature food," she says. Her ideas come from cookery books... that's why they look so delicious!

Nationality and language report

In my class there are thirty-two students from four different countries. There are people from Spain, Russia, Morocco and India.
At school we have English classes five times a week. Catalan and Spanish are also subjects here. People in this class speak Catalan.
My level of English is Basic. My vocabulary is good, but I want to imporve my speaking, listening and grammer. I think it's good idea to memorize examples and I do my homework, I watch DVDs in English, I listen to pop songs in English, I use the dictionary, I ask my teacher if I don't understated and I go to language school.

Barcelona is a city in the east of Catalonia. It's got a population of about 1.000.000 people and there is a lot of tourism here. I like Barcelona because it's a noisy place. For tourists there are a lot of shops and restaurants, and there are some important buildings and places like: La Pedrera, Segrada Família, Parc Güell, Camp Nou... My favorite places are the shops and the restaurants. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia. It's got a big airoport: "El prat" and one big harbor, too.

Jennifer grew up in New York City. She always dreamed of becoming an actress. Her father was an actor and wanted her to be a doctor or a lawyer. "When I told him I wanted to be an actress he made a funny face," she says. His main concern was my heart breaking because it can be a very hard job.
Jennifer's first roles:
In 1989, Jennifer got her first TV role in a series called Molloy. But her big chance came in 1994 when she did an audition for a new TV show called Friends. She got the role of Rachel. Thanks to Friends, Jennifer became famous. Even her hairstyle was famous it was called "The Rachel". Then, in 2000, she married Brad Pitt women all around the world wanted to be Jennifer Aniston.

This is the British Royal Family. The Queen's husband is the Duke of Edinburgh. They've got four children. Their oldest son is Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. His two sons are Prince William and Prince Harry. The Queen lives in a place in London - Buckingham Palace.
Prince William and Prince Harry are the Queen's grandchildren. William was born in 1982, Harry in 1984.

School in England helps students to eat healthy food with the Green Machine. Green Machines have got lots of interesting snacks. There are cereal bars, organic crisps, yoghurts, and the drinks in Green Machines are healthy as well. There are fruit juices, mineral water and smoothies. These students are enjoying their food and it's good for them too.

THE SCHOOL DAY unit 3
For most students in Britain, the school day starts between eight thirty and nine o'clock. The school day starts with registration where the teacher checks everybody is in school. After two or three lessons there is a break. After break it's back to work.Sometimes special subjects like science last for two lessons. But there's always the lunch break to look forward to. After lunch it's back to the classroom.

People in Britain really like shopping. In a recent survey 56% of women. They often go shopping every day! They sell different things like food, medicines and cosmetics, clothes and books. There are lots of big out-of-town shopping centres where there are many shops in a large indoor area. The Bluewater it's the largest shopping complex in Europe with over 330 differents shops.

There are lots of different kinds of houses. This is the kind of house you find in British towns. These are semi-detached houses just two houses joined together. These are detached houses there aren't any other houses joined on to them. Lots of people live in flats, especially in big towns and cities. Houses in different parts of Britain can look very different.

ANIMALS unit 6
People love animals. But some of the world's animals are in danger of extinction. In some parts of the world people collect rhino horn for use in medicine. Chimpanzee and whale meat are popular with some people. Another big problem is the destruction of the rainforests. This is removing the habitat of many animals, like these gorillas, birds and plants.

SPORTS unit 7
At the weekend in Britain, millions of people take part in some kind of sporting activity. Even more people spend part of the weekend watching sport especially football. From August to April football is everywhere. Football is played in schools and as a leisure activity. Both girls and boys play. Cricket is the main summer sport in Britain. Criket is played between two teams of 11 people.

LIBRARIES AND READING unit 8
British people read a lot. They read books, newspapers and magazines. And of course they read text messages on their mobile phones. There are lots of public libraries where you can borrow books for free. In this library you can borrow books but you can also buy a cup of coffee, look at an art exhibition, sit in a quiet study area or connect to the Internet.

WEATHER AND THE SEASONS unit 9
The weather is a very popular topic of conversation in Britain. When the weather is good, people complain that it's too hot. Winter lasts from December to February. Spring is from March to May. The summer months are June, July and August. Then the autumn is form September, October, November. It's not surprising that Britain has got one of the most important weather centres in the world. They provide weather forecasts for radio, television and newspapers.
